Chambers Ranks Longford Capital Among Top Litigation Finance Firms for Third Consecutive Year
CHICAGO, June 25, 2020 - Chambers and Partners ranked Longford Capital in its 2020 Chambers Litigation Support Guide. This is the third consecutive annual recognition of Longford by Chambers, which has ranked Longford among the best litigation finance firms since its inaugural ranking of the industry in 2018.
Chambers bases its judgments on the facts of each firm (total capital, fund structure, leading investors, quality of management, track record, etc.), commentary from those who have worked with the firm, and the opinions of peers.
Chambers and Partners identified Michael A. Nicolas, co-founder and Managing Director of Longford Capital, as a top practitioner within the litigation finance industry, also for the third year running.
Mike is responsible for portfolio management, including underwriting, investment selection, and overseeing the efforts of independent attorneys and other professionals as part of the due diligence process. Mike is also a thought leader, speaking regularly at conferences and authoring numerous articles on issues pertinent to the industry. He is a former litigator and partner in the commercial litigation group of Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg, at which he represented companies involved in complex commercial legal disputes.
Alongside Russ Genet, a Director with Longford Capital, Mike leads the firm’s University Initiative, which seeks to provide funding for attorneys’ fees and expenses so that research universities can realize new revenue by enforcing their intellectual property rights without diverting resources from students and research.
“Our University Initiative is one example of how Longford remains at the leading edge of innovation in litigation finance,” said Mike. “With more than $1 billion in assets under management, we are among a few firms with the resources and sophistication to provide portfolio finance. And as the world has grown more complex, we have broadened our options to include helping clients and firms with cash flow for operating expenses, as well as monetizing claims and post-judgment awards. It is rewarding to know that many of our clients and peers value our partnership so highly, and that we’ve maintained the trust and respect necessary to be identified in Chambers’ survey.”
